Category: Nutritional Articles

NAC (N-ACETYLCYSTEINE OR ACETYLCYSTEINE) is an amino acid by-product found naturally in food that fight free radicals that also improves metabolic health.

Physicians often use it to break up mucus accumulation in the lungs in conditions such as emphysema, pneumonia, bronchitis and tuberculosis. It is also used to treat liver toxicity triggered by overdose of acetaminophen – the most common cause of poisoning in the United States. NAC works together with glutathione to help rid the body of toxic chemicals. A case study by physicians from the Houston Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas showed that bodybuilder suffering from supplement – induced liver injury from a product called Friction was successfully treated with NAC. Liver toxicity is relatively common because of the overuse of acetaminophen. NAC is an effective supplement for suspected drug-induced liver toxicity.
