This could be a mistake. The United States Preventive Services Task Force, an independent think tank that reviews studies and develops clinical recommendations, advised women to avoid calcium supplements because they don’t increase bone density and might increase the risk of heart attack. A study from the University of Auckland in New Zealand found that calcium supplements increased blood pressure and blood coagulation for up to eight hours. Calcium supplements might have severe and potentially deadly side effects.
