One group of animals practiced HIIT for eight weeks, while another group did no exercise. The HIIT group performed seven intervals for seven minutes at 80 to 100 percent of maximum effort, with three minutes at rest between intervals. HIIT increased nitric oxide (NO) levels by 150%. (NO) is a vital chemical produced in the inner lining of the blood vessels that control blood flow. The animals were subjected to decrease heart blood flow to simulate a heart attack. The trained animals suffered substantially less heart damage. Intense interval training protects the heart against reduced blood flow by increasing nitric oxide levels in the coronary arteries. Side effects include heart attack, stroke, kidney disease, erectile dysfunction and abdominal obesity. Standard treatment goals in people 60 and over are to lower systolic blood pressure with drugs to below 150 mmHg and diastolic pressure below 90 mmHg. In people over 40, the goal is to reduce systolic pressure below 140 mmHg. A landmark study by the SPRINT Research Group – heart disease researchers from throughout the U.S. – showed that aggressively lowering systolic blood pressure below 120 mmHg with fatal and heart attack, compared to a group following standard blood pressure reduction strategy. People in the aggressive treatment groups suffered more drug side effects, including bouts of low blood pressure, fainting, heart rhythm abnormalities and kidney failure. Heart failure affects nearly 5.8 million people worldwide One in five people have a lifetime risk of developing the problem. The risk of coronary artery disease and stroke has decreased in recent years. The survival rate for heart failure patients is worse than cancer. Factors such as obesity, high blood fats and hypertension increase the risk of heart failure – just as they do for coronary artery disease and stroke. Swedish researchers from Karolinska Institute in Stockholm found that consumption of high –sugar drinks increased the risk of HF. In a study of 42,000 older men, those who drank two high-sugar drinks per day were more likely to develop heart failure within 11 years. If weight management were that simple, we wouldn’t be in the midst of an obesity epidemic. Researchers from the University of California, Irvine suggested that obesogens – environmental chemicals that alter cellular sensors controlling metabolic rate and food intake – interfere with energy balance and promote fat storage. These chemicals include environmental oestrogens – molecules that resemble the hormone oestrogen – and chemicals found in plastics or manufacturing by-products that interfere with the control of metabolism, appetite and weight management. Exposure to these chemicals during critical growth periods might condemn people to a lifetime of obesity. Understanding and managing environmental oestrogens and obesogens is a major public health issue. High-Intensity Training Kettlebell Produces Rapid Results

Home About Online Personalized Coaching Articles Contact X Home About Online Personalized Coaching Articles Contact Home About Online Personalized Coaching Articles Contact High-Intensity Training Kettlebell Produces Rapid Results Category: Lifestyle Articles The physiological responses to a kettlebell high-intensity interval training routine developed by Brian Williams and Robert Kraemer from South-Eastern Louisiana University should rapidly increase endurance and strength. The routine is a 12-minute kettlebell workout that uses a strict regimen-repetitions of 20 seconds of kettlebell exercises followed by 10 seconds of rest. The kettlebell exercises were the sumo squat, swing, one-arm clean and press, and sumo deadlift. The responses to the kettlebell circuit were similar to a time-matched interval-training workout on a stationary bike. Caloric expenditure and heart rate were similar between workouts. The study expanded our view of high-intensity exercise. A high-intensity kettlebell circuit can substitute for high-intensity interval training workouts on a stationary bike or elliptical trainer. Chinese researchers from Xi’an Jiaotong University showed that traditional cardiovascular disease risk factors also predicted erectile dysfunction (ED). They studied 222 patients with heart disease. Risk factors linked to erectile dysfunction included high blood pressure, chest pain, high (BMI), total cholesterol, age, smoking and the cholesterol-HDL ratio. Exercise, diabetes and alcohol consumption were not linked to ED in this study. The Israeli study showed that exposure to electromagnetic radiation emitted from cell phones decreases sperm counts in at least 50% of men. Reduced fertility was greatest in men who carried their phones in pockets close to their groin. This was a small study involving only 106 men, so more research is needed to determine the extent of the problem. Adequate Amount Of Sleep Imperative For Performance And Health

Home About Online Personalized Coaching Articles Contact X Home About Online Personalized Coaching Articles Contact Home About Online Personalized Coaching Articles Contact Adequate Amount Of Sleep Imperative For Performance And Health Category: Lifestyle Articles Sleeping less than seven to eight hours per night can ruin your health and increase the risk of heart attack, stroke and diabetes. Poor sleeping patterns impair metabolic health, promote abdominal obesity, increase insulin levels, diminish blood sugar regulation, trigger abnormal blood fats and raise blood pressure. Warning signs include snoring and daytime sleepiness. You need adequate sleep for recovery and restoration. Lack of sleep leaves you fatigued, achy and disoriented. Sleep is critical for protein synthesis. Lack of sleep causes tissue breakdown market by increases in catabolic hormones such as cortisol and decreases in anabolic hormones such as testosterone and insulin-like growth factor- 1(IGF-1). Inadequate sleep slows pathways involved in protein synthesis, increases protein breakdown and promotes loss of muscle mass and muscle degradation. In athletes, inadequate sleep slows injury repair and tissue recovery. In older adults, sleep deprivation contributes to sarcopenia – the loss of muscle tissue.  (Strength Condition Journal, 38(1):61-67, 2016) OLS Insider Empower Yourself with Knowledge view more Proudly partnered with Home About Articles Contact Disclaimer Privacy policy Terms and conditions Facebook-f Instagram Linkedin © 2024 Copyright @Optimized Living Solutions. Rotator Cuff Injuries And Recovery

Home About Online Personalized Coaching Articles Contact X Home About Online Personalized Coaching Articles Contact Home About Online Personalized Coaching Articles Contact Rotator Cuff Injuries And Recovery Category: Lifestyle Articles The shoulder is a highly complex joint, due to its mobility and versatility. Unfortunately, these attributes also make it susceptible to injury and chronic pain. The rotator cuff is an intricate group of muscles and tendons that internally and externally rotate the shoulder and stabilize the joint. A review of literature led by Jeffrey Osborne from Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan concluded that adequate rehabilitation was critical for restoring pain-free and effective movement in the shoulder joint after injury. Rotator cuff injuries are extremely common in athletes and in older adults. By age 80, 62% of people have rotator cuff injuries, many of which are undetected. Treatment depends on the degree of injury, activity levels and age. These injuries are usually treated conservative at first, using a variety of exercises and treatment modalities. Surgical repair is usually indicated when conservative methods fail. Unfortunately, surgically repaired rotator cuffs are vulnerable to re-injury, which limits the progression of rehabilitation. Exercise Reduces Cancer Risk And Adrenaline Could Be The Key

Home About Online Personalized Coaching Articles Contact X Home About Online Personalized Coaching Articles Contact Home About Online Personalized Coaching Articles Contact Exercise Reduces Cancer Risk And Adrenaline Could Be The Key Category: Lifestyle Articles Exercise reduces the risk of several kinds of cancer, but scientists are not yet sure why A fascinating study on mice from the University of Copenhagen in Denmark might explain the reason for the decreased risk factor. Exercise reduced the risk of cancer by 60% in animals with five different kinds of tumours. Exercising animals receiving implants of melanoma skin cancer cells were less likely to develop full-blown cancer than sedentary animals. Exercise increase adrenaline, natural killer cells and interleukin-6, which combined to become potent cancer killers. The researchers speculated that adrenaline acts as a signal to interleukin-6, which turn on the natural killer cells that fight the cancer. It is not known whether these results apply to humans.  (Cell Metabolism. 23:554-562, 2016) OLS Insider Empower Yourself with Knowledge view more Before You Go Get Our Complimentary Lifestyle Consultancy eBook & Elevate Your Life Today!
