Excessive free radical production can damage cell membranes and DNA, suppress the immune system and disrupt the function of the brain. Free radicals, however, are also important for generating the stress response that triggers increases in muscle mass and strength that builds physical fitness. The body has an antioxidant system that helps repair damaged tissues and minimizes the effects of free radicals. Antioxidants are produced naturally or consumed in the diet as whole foods or supplements. The brain is particularly susceptible to oxidative damage because of its rapid metabolic rate and high fat content. Anabolic steroids increased free radical production in the brain, which increases the risk of Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease and (MS) multiple sclerosis. A study on rats by scientists from the University of Granada in Spain found that high-intensity exercise modified the negative effects of the anabolic steroid stanozolol on the brain. It is not known whether these results apply to humans. They cause tissue damage throughout the body and may be an important contributor to aging. Karolin Yanar for Istanbul University in Turkey, and co-workers, found that a single dose of testosterone decreased oxidative damage in the kidney in older rats. The kidneys of testosterone-treated older rats resembled those of younger animals. These results might not apply to humans. The new recommendation stems from a study of 9,300 people, which showed that lowering blood pressure below 120 reduced the risk of heart attack by 33% and premature death by 25%, compared to the old target of 140 mmHg. High blood pressure promotes blood vessel disease, kidney disease and heart failure. Systolic blood pressure is the higher blood pressure number that represents the pressure generated from the heart as it contracts. Helpful In Fatty Liver Disease Category: Lifestyle Articles High-intensity internal training (HIIT) helps treat fatty liver disease-according to a study from Newcastle University in the U.K. High-intensity interval training involves performing a series of short, intense bouts of exercise followed by rest. It has been popular with athletes for nearly 100 years. Recently, scientists have found that (HIIT) also builds aerobic capacity quickly in recreational athletes, older adults and patients with metabolic disorders. The Newcastle University study found that 12 weeks of HIIT lasting 30-40 minutes workout reduced liver fat and improved body composition and cardiovascular function in the middle-aged adults with fatty liver disease. Fatty liver disease, characterized by fat accumulation in the liver, is usually due to obesity or excessive alcohol consumption. High-intensity interval training is an effective way to treat this health problem. Exhaustive Exercising Temporarily Suppresses The Immune System

For aerobic exercise, athletes ran on a treadmill at 85% of maximum effort to exhaustion. Weight training involved a circuit with fie exercises that the subjects performed until exhausted. Free radicals-high reactive chemicals produced naturally during metabolism were higher at the end of exercise and during recovery, compared to rest. This coincided with a decrease in markers of immune system function. Other studies have found that marathon runners are more susceptible to upper respiratory infections for up to 30 days after a race. Athletes must balance the stress of training with adequate recovery to avoid illnesses. Getting a cold or flu can stop athletes in their tracks. Danish researchers from Aarhus University, led by Dr. Anne Amstrup, found that women consuming 3-5 milligrams of melatonin daily for one year decreased body fat by nearly 7% and increased lean mass by 5.2%, compared to a placebo treatment (fake melatonin). There were no differences in weight, body mass index or blood sugar regulation between the experimental and control groups. The disease is common in post-menopausal women but can occur in men too. Bones can fracture with even minor stress, or break spontaneously. The most effective treatment of osteoporosis has been to prevent it during childhood. This doesn’t help people the disease. A 10 – year study by Swedish researchers found that Human growth hormone (HGH) therapy reduced fractures by 50%, compared to untreated women. Women who did not receive HGH experienced more fractures. HGH treated women continued to have fewer fractures, even after treatment stopped. Men under 70 with heart disease live longer when they take the medication. Their effects on sexual performance are less well understood. Lowering cholesterol improves blood vessel health, which is important for promoting strong erections. But, over 50% of statin users have trouble achieving orgasm. A Korean study found that statin therapy decreased the risk of erectile dysfunction by 25%. So, statins have positive and negative sexual effects. Statins are also linked to fatigue and muscle weakness, which is not good for sexual performance or for bodybuilding. Statins are probably overprescribed for preventing heart disease in otherwise healthy people. According to a study led by Jean-Pierre Pelletier from the rheumatology research institute in Montreal, Canada. Chondroitin effectively delayed the progression of the disease, while improving functional capacity and decreasing pain. Patients in the study took either 1,200 milligrams per day of Celebrex for two years. Chondroitin had the best long-term effect on arthritis progress, even though both treatments effectively reduced symptoms. Functional Restoration Program Treats Back Pain Issues
Home About Services Platinum Package Diamond Package Articles Contact X Home About Services Platinum Package Diamond Package Articles Contact Home About Services Platinum Package Diamond Package Articles Contact Functional Restoration Program Treats Back Pain Issues Category: Lifestyle Articles 85% of Americans and 78% of South Africans have episodes of back pain. In the U.S. it is the most common cause of disability in adults, and results in more than 145 million lost workdays per year, at an annual cost of $100 billion to $200 billion. Pain-relieving drugs are the principal treatment, but they are only stopgap methods because they don’t get to the root of the problem. Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Centre in New Hampshire offers a three-week “Functional Restoration Program” that involves exercise, relaxation and behavioural counselling. Unfortunately, many of the exercises emphasize trunk flexion and extension, which reproduce the mechanism of injury. Research by Canadian bio mechanist Stuart McGill showed that isometric core exercises are superior to traditional dynamic exercise for building the core because they develop stiffness and spinal stability. Core stiffness strengthens core muscles and improves their endurance, reduces low back pain and boosts sports performance. Greater core stiffness transfers strength and speed to the limbs, increases the load-bearing capacity of the spine and protects the internal organs during everyday movements. Isometric exercises for the core resulted in greater core stiffness than performing whole-body dynamic exercises that activated core muscles. His studies on core stiffness are changing the way we train for sport and treat back pain.
